Delphastus pusillus

Delphastus pusillus is a small black ladybird beetle which feeds on all stages of whitefly. Both larvae and adults are enormously gluttonous and are able to wipe out whitefly hot spots efficiently. They consume 10,000 whitefly eggs or 700 larvae during their lifetime. If food is scarce, D. pusillus also feeds on spider mites and aphids. The females are attracted to whitefly hot spots where the eggs are laid. D. pusillus is able to discriminate parasitized whitefly larvae, allowing combined releases with parasitoids. This predatory beetle is not diapause sensitive and is therefore active during the entire season.
